Singer/songwriter and original member of 70's pop icons FIREFAll , Larry Burnett, is planning free downloads of all of his solo recorded music commencing the first quarter of 2010.
Rather than fight the battle of how to monetize music in this era of declining CD sales, Larry Burnett has decided to concede to the consumer demand for free music by giving his away and simply using it as a tool to promote and expand attendance at his live performances.
"30 years ago, free music availability was only through radio", says Burnett. "You couldn't own it, copy it (legally) or control what music was played...and it was primarily a promotional tool for artists to sell records and grow a fanbase. Honestly, it was a bit conspiratorial."
"Things have changed. Recorded music is still a strong promotional tool for growing a fanbase, but consumers are growing more accustomed to getting it free and having vastly more choice in the matter. It's better to adapt than fight when life changes."
The fans will have MP3 or FLAC file formats to choose from. In order to access the downloads, fans must first submit their name (first & last), City, State, Country and email address.
Lyrics, graphics and credits will also be available.
For those who prefer hard copy CDs and packaging, EPs will be available at the lowest cost manageable online and at live performances.
The free file downloads (and EP purchases) will be available at his web site,
www.larryburnett.com.
